Fresh Figs are only in season for a very short period and the fresh fruit does not keep for very long. We have a small window of opportunity to enjoy this delight at its best.

They have only just started to appear in my local shops now that summer is ending!

Fresh Figs - whole and halved

Fresh Figs

Figs are a fresh fruit to try as they have a beautiful delicate sweet flavour.  Full of fibre and nutrients you just eat them whole.

Dried figs are available all year round so it is these that most of us have tasted. Dried figs are used in many fig recipes.

Fresh figs are just as versatile, use them in sweet or savoury dishes.

This fresh fig with honey drizzled yoghurt recipe is a very simple summer dessert.

This simple dessert is cool and refreshing on a hot summer day.  An alternative for Autumn is to place the fig halves under the grill with the drizzle of honey on top to caramelise – yum.
